I urge you to install this little app, it takes about as long as the Flash Player plugin to install and is a full Acrobat-esque app!)

I think this is a pretty good example of the direction in which Adobe is going in terms of desktop web-apps. I mentioned Apollo a little while back, an app they are developing for turning Flex 2+ applications into browser-free click-to-run desktop apps that can make use of all the latest web-based programming technologies, AJAX, Ruby-On-Rails etc without needing to be run within the confinds of a web browser such as IE or FireFox.

We have discussed this between us before, and feel this is definitely the direction the web is moving in general; away from the browser.

What are your thoughts, ideas and suggestions for applications of this style of app?

Cheers all and have a great week J

Cool search, plus more on Barcamp

June 26, 2006

From Chris:

One of the coolest new meta-search engines I've found is http://gada.be/. It's a nice mashup of regular search engines but all sorts of web-service data sources like Flickr, Amazon and Technorati. Check out their searches for Boston Barcamp, Monster.com and (my current obsession) England World Cup.

This is me:

I've still got the chubby cheeks. Guess I'll never rid of them ;-)

Boston BarCamp

June 26, 2006

Monster Labs was recently the host of the Boston Barcamp. A Barcamp is an unconferencethat gets a group of geeks and related people together and organize talks, hack-a-thons and seminars on the spot. Barcamp was a raging success; you can checkout the Flickr pool here and podcasts here, here and here

If there's a Barcamp near you they're well worth attending. We met lots of interesting people who had some seriously cool ideas. One of our geek favorites was the Omniscient Debugger which is idea that I hope finds its way into every IDE, and of course the Reddit guys were a huge hit.

Welcome to the semi-official blog of the denizens of Monster Labs. We're the innovation center for Monster.com, and you'll be seeing a lot of stuff coming out of the Monster soon that will have Labs stamped all over it (or at least was born and nutured in the Labs).

While we're not nuturing baby Monsters we'll take some time out to blog about whatever catches our eye. Welcome, enjoy the ride, and please remember to keep both arms outside the carriage at all times ;-)
